To encourage someone else’s freedom is the ultimate act of selflessness. Our relationships are come in all shapes and sizes. They challenge, energize, drain, build, and nurture us. One thing I have learned in almost 20 years of working with people is that there is no such thing as a simple person. Human beings are, by nature, dynamic and complicated. If they weren’t, life would be painfully boring.
I cherish all of my friends, but I have to admit that I have a special place in my heart for those who encourage my freedom. They are easy to be with, genuinely thrilled for my successes and honestly sympathetic to my failures. They understand me. They get it. They appreciate my oddities and accept my faults. Regardless of the natural ebb and flow of daily life, when it’s all said and done, we are glad to have each other.
These are the friends I look for in my life. This is the kind of friend I try to be for others. It’s the environment I want at work, at play, at church, and at home. This is why I have made it my mission to learn and teach others to encourage the freedom of friends and family. I might even go as far as to define this little utopia of mine as “love”.
Encourage someone’s Freedom today. You’ll both be glad you did.
